Cardinals Avoid Being Swept & Royals Lose 6th Straight

Adam Wainwright was in vintage form Sunday, pitching six sharp innings as the St. Louis Cardinals avoided a three-game sweep by beating the San Diego Padres 4-1. The 37-year-old Wainwright gave up one run and five hits. He struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk while throwing 100 pitches.

Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas (0-1, 7.20) will face Dodgers LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-0, 2.08) in the first of a four-game set in St. Louis on Monday. The first pitch at Busch Stadium is scheduled for 6:45

 

 

Tyson Ross finally pitched at Comerica Park — and certainly enjoyed his new surroundings. Ross pitched seven impressive innings, and the Detroit Tigers extended their winning streak to five with a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The Royals have lost 6 straight.

Kansas City returns home to face Seattle. RHP Homer Bailey (0-0) starts for the Royals on Monday night against RHP Felix Hernandez (1-0).
