The arrest came after an incident in June where Thayer Chief of Police Daryl Childers attempted to wake a sleeping person in a truck and they pointed a gun at him. The individual was arrested and while authorities were searching the vehicle they found an insurance card for a 69 year old James Brewer of Thayer. When they went to his home officers allegedly found numerous items of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Two other people who lived in the home with Brewer, 42 year old Brent Reeves and 40 year old Kelly Sheppard along with Brewer were arrested. All three  were charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, keeping or maintaining a public nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brewer and Reeves were also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Brewer was released on $75,000 bail, Reeves was released on $50,000 bail and Sheppard was released on $10,000 bail.
