An Alderman in Birch Tree has been charged with arson. 59 year old Fred McAfee was arrested after a fire that gutted a city owned structure at the intersection of highway 99 and Oak street in Birch Tree, McAfee was allegedly seen at the fire clapping his hands and smiling and according to witnesses admitting to setting the fire. McAfee is charged with second degree arson with bond set at $50,000.
