Missouri schools will receive $208 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Education to help with COVID-19-related needs. Gov. Mike Parson announced Wednesday afternoon that Missouri schools will also receive about $55 million from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund. These funds are authorized under the CARES Act. These funds will be distributed through a federal allocation program that allows the most disadvantaged schools to receive aid first, according to Dr. Margie Vandeven. Vandeven is the commissioner of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She says these funds will help address the challenges of remote learning, such as lost learning time and digital divides.
