Two people from Sharp County are facing charges after leaving animals to die.

According to documents, Heidi Holland and Tracey Toller of Williford will face 19 charges each of animal cruelty following the discovery of multiple dogs who had been left for an extended period of time with water or food.

Holland and Toller were occupying a home in Williford with 19 dogs in the residence, then moved blocks away from the home and left the animals at the former residence.

Deputy Marc Boyd with the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the property owner asking for a welfare check, due to not hearing from the current renters.

The caller requested the check due to hearing there were two dogs deceased still inside the home.

When Boyd arrived on the scene of the property, it was noted that the property had not been maintained and after looking in a window, he spotted the bodies of two deceased dogs and could hear barking.

Boyd broke a small window to unlock the door, but when he broke the window, the smell of ammonia was overcoming.

The temperature inside the residence was reported to be 100 degrees and no windows were open and there was no alternative form of exit such as a doggie door was available.

Upon entrance, Boyd discovered multiple bodies of dogs, as well as some dogs who had survived by eating the corpses of the deceased.

Three small dogs were discovered to be alive, including an additional seven in the backyard.

All animals still alive were taken to the local rescue to receive treatment.

If you would like to support the recovery of the animals who were rescued, contact the shelter at 870-955-0185.
