The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking Missourians and others to include safety in their plans for Labor Day Weekend.
According to the Highway Patrol, 18 people died and 463 were injured in 1,041 traffic crashes over the 2020 holiday, meaning that one person was killed or injured every 9.7 minutes.
Troopers made 146 arrests for driving while intoxicated over the holiday weekend last year.
The holiday is also a busy boating weekend, last year there were 20 boating crashes which included six injuries and one fatality.
MSHP encourages everyone to incorporate safety into choosing your route, making sure your equipment is in good working condition, being aware of and following Missouri’s traffic and boating laws, driving your vehicle or vessel courteously, and wearing a seat belt or life jacket.
If you witness criminal activity, you are asked to call the Patrol’s Emergency Report Line, 1-800-525-5555, or call 911.
If your celebrations involve alcohol, designate someone else to drive, the Highway Patrol asks you to not become a statistic.
