The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission held a groundbreaking on Thursday at the Jim Hinkle Spring River Fish Hatchery, located just outside of Mammoth Spring.
The hatchery is one of the largest state-owned trout-producing facilities in the southeastern United States and is the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s only cold water facility.
The new system will be smaller and wider than what they currently have, and will help produce trout more efficiently by decreasing water usage, increasing growth rate, and will make a lower cost for each fish produced.
I had a chance to speak with the new director of the game and fish commission, Austin Booth.
Booth took the position in July of 2021. He tells us that the position is a dream come true.
Finally, Director Booth talks about what the plan is for the North Central Region of the state.
