Last week the Texas County Sheriff James Sigman was arrested by the highway patrol and his license suspended. County Coroner Marie Lasaster has assumed the duties as acting sheriff. Sheriff Sigman is the first Texas County officeholder in 45 years to be charged with crimes while in office. The County Commission has released a statement saying that no appointment as Sheriff will happen until either Sigman resigns or is ousted by the court.
