One-vehicle crash kills one, sends two to hospital

A one-vehicle crash killed one and sent two to the hospital on Monday afternoon in Texas County. 

According to crash reports, a 1999 Ford Taurus, driven by Franklin Thomas of Houston, MO was traveling southbound on MO 17, 8 miles north of Summersville, when the Taurus failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the roadway, struck a fence, and overturned multiple times, ejecting the occupants. 

Passenger 47-year-old Jason McGrath of Houston was pronounced dead at the scene by the Texas County Coroner. 

The driver of the vehicle was reported to have serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Cox South in Springfield, and the third occupant of the vehicle, 21-year-old Daniel Ketchum had moderate injuries after the crash. He was taken to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. 

According to the crash report, none of the vehicle occupants were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash. 

This is Troop G’s 26 fatality compared to 32 this time last year.
