The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man on aggravated assault charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Lieutenant Jake Smith, Sheriff Al Roork, and Investigator Dale Weaver responded to a domestic altercation on Oct. 18 on French Town Road in the county.

While in route, dispatch advised that a woman had been beaten by her husband, and she was trying to leave the residence with their four-year-old son.

Dispatch also advised that the woman’s husband said he would kill police or any person who would try to intervene.

The caller stated that the husband went inside and came out with a gun.

Dispatch stated they heard a scream and a woman saying, “give my phone back.”

Moments later, communication with the victim was gone.

When police arrived, police located the victim and their four-year-old son in a vehicle in the driveway.

39-year-old Mitchell Woods appeared from behind another vehicle in the driveway, and he was then put into restraints.

While restraining Woods, Lieutenant Smith noticed his hands and forearms were coated with a black soot material.

Smith then went and spoke with the victim when he noticed the black substance on the victim.

She stated that Woods choked her to the point where she couldn’t breathe and told her many times that he would kill her.

She finally took her soon outside of the home where the altercation occurred and got into the vehicle.

Woods then began removing fuses and relays from the car so it would not start or operate.

The victim then stated that he went and got a pickax and tried the puncture the tires with it.

While she was on the phone, she said Woods went inside, got a gun, began walking around with it, saying he would kill her and the police that “everyone would die.”

The weapon was seized and identified as a .44 caliber with a wooden stock.

Lieutenant Smith noticed the weapon was depositing a black soot substance on his hands.

Woods now faces charges of felony aggravated assault of a family or household member, felony 1st-degree false imprisonment, and misdemeanor 3rd-degree assault against a family or household member.

His bond was set at $5,000 and was posted on Sunday by Bail Bond Financing Inc of White Hall, AR.
