The Izard County Sheriff’s Office arrested on man on forgery charges from a case dating back to early January.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed within the county on March 10, on Jan. 12, Deputy Chase Tomlinson documented a walk-in complaint at the Sheriff’s Office.
The victim explained they had a social security and credit card stolen from their vehicle while in Melbourne at the revenue office.
The victim said that a young-looking man with his father came up to them and asked if their truck was for sale.
They stated it was for sale and allowed him to look inside the truck.
Once the victim left the revenue office, it was noticed that the cards and $200 were missing from inside the vehicle.
The victim reported the older male had several tattoos and had spoken to the revenue office about purchasing a law enforcement license plate in an attempt to stop police officers from conducting traffic stops on him.
The victim also described the vehicle that the suspects were driving to authorities.
After consulting with the Department of Finance Police, Deputy Tomlinson obtained the new tag number and vehicle description of the suspect car, which matched the victim’s description.
The main suspect was identified to be 31-year-old Aaron Laxton.
On Jan. 19, the victim contacted Deputy Tomlinson, saying that two charges had been attempted to post to the credit card, one at a Dollar General in Cushman, AR, and a gas station in Mount Pleasant, AR.
After gathering evidence from both stores, Tomlinson contacted the victim for a copy of their card statement and received one on March 8.
Laxton signed both receipts for the purchases made.
He is charged with felony forgery, felony theft of property – credit/debit card, fraudulent use of a credit or debit card – less than or equal to $1,000, and misdemeanor theft of property – less than or equal to $1,000.
He is being held in the Izard County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
