An arrest in Izard County left a man with assault and theft charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed on Thursday, on Feb. 23, deputies with the Izard County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address in Melbourne about a domestic dispute with a firearm involved.

After arriving on the scene, deputies were advised by a victim that her husband, 47-year-old Christopher Ferguson, had been violent and physically aggressive toward her and had left the residence and walked into the woods.

Deputies located Ferguson in a wooded area inside a broken-down vehicle covered by a tarp.

Ferguson was then detained by officers.

The victim advised that Ferguson had been verbally and physically abusive toward her, had struck her multiple times with his hands and fists, and had thrown a glass drinking cup at her, which hit her in the leg.

She also stated he had gotten a firearm and discharged it in an unsafe manner, shooting a tire on her vehicle.

She stated when the altercation began, she attempted to call 911, but Ferguson took her phone away from her.

She said that she was able to break away and finally call authorities.

She also advised deputies on the scene that she was terrified of Ferguson and had made threats in the past to kill her then commit suicide.

After the investigation was completed on the scene, Ferguson was taken into custody for misdemeanor charges.

On Feb. 27, the Sheriff’s office was contacted by another victim on the same road of the address authorities were called to the same week.

The victim stated property had been stolen at his residence.

The property included two rare animal antlers valued at $1,500 each.

Authorities seized the antlers from Ferguson’s property and made arrangements to return them to the rightful owner.

Ferguson is charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, two counts for felony theft by receiving more than $1,000 and less than $5,000, and misdemeanor interference with emergency communications.

He was given no bond.
