Hardy authorities arrest man on drug charges after shoplifting from convenience store

The Hardy Police Department has arrested a man on theft and drug charges. 

Court documents filed on Monday state that on Jan. 15, 54-year-old Gary Butler was arrested for theft of property at a gas station in Hardy. 

Butler approached to be under the influence of meth when authorities were speaking to him. 

After a search, Butler was found to be in possession of a clear plastic bag and a rolled-up dollar bill containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. 

Butler admitted that the substance was meth and admitted to using meth several hours prior. 

A search of Butler’s vehicle he was driving resulted in locating a pull organizer containing two pills identified as Clonazepam and three pills identified as Hydromorphone. 

He is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor theft of property – less than $1,000. 

His bond was set at $4,500.
