The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man on multiple drug and weapons charges.

According to a press release, on May 25, Sheriff’s Deputy Tanner Anderson stopped a 2006 White Jeep on State Highway 126 in the Midway area for one traffic violation and one equipment violation.

The vehicle driver was identified as 28-year-old James Peer of Conway, AR.

When the deputy spoke with Peer, he detected the odor of burned marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

He also noticed several air fresheners hanging inside the vehicle in an attempt to cover up the odor.

When the deputy ran a driver’s license and warrant check through the Arkansas Criminal Information Center, he learned that Peer had an active arrest warrant from the Conway Police Department.

It was then determined that Baxter County was outside its extradition limits on that warrant.

The vehicle was then searched and found 1.8 grams of cocaine, approximately 64.59 grams of fentanyl, approximately 120 grams of marijuana, 440 pills of Oxycodone Hydrochloride, one pill of oxycodone, one pill of alprazolam, and approximately 4.78 grams of THC gummies.

$3,750 in cash was found as well as a Ruger-57 handgun, a Precisions Guns AB-15 rifle, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Peer will face charges of felony trafficking of a controlled substance, three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, felony simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was given a $250,000 bond.
