The North Arkansas Electric Cooperative is asking its members to be on the lookout for scam artists.
Two different scams involved the electric cooperative.
In the first, a scammer will threaten to disconnect the member’s services until an outstanding balance payment is made.
NAEC said they work with their members to keep their power on.
A notice is mailed to members with an outstanding balance that outlines payment options.
The cooperative will not call demanding money.
In the other scam, the caller will say members are owed a refund for overpaying their electric service.
The scammer will ask for their debit or credit card information to process the refund.
NAEC said this is not their practice, and any credit on an account would be reflected on next month’s statement.
If you want to verify you are speaking with an NAEC employee, please hang up the phone and call the office at 870-895-3221. A member service representative can answer any questions regarding your account.
