A Wiseman man has been arrested on rape charges after the death of a 38-year-old woman. Jeremy Corlis is charged with five counts of rape. Corlis along with Mary Corlis and Denise Carpenter was allegedly caring for a woman who reportedly was incoherent, unable to stand or walk on her own, and unable to talk for days before her death. During the death investigation, information was obtained indicating that the victim had possibly been sexually assaulted before her death.
Investigators conducted a post-Miranda interview with Jeremy Corlis and during this interview, Corlis confessed to having sexual contact with the victim.
Later, Corlis also confessed to sexually assaulting the victim three other times in addition to the two incidents in which he had previously confessed.
He is currently incarcerated in the Izard County Detention Center.
The victim’s body was sent to the state crime lab for an official cause of death. A preliminary report shows no trauma to the body that points to foul play.
