A pair of local counties are opting out of the Ozark Run Scenic Byway. The 375-mile route from St Louis to Branson was proposed in 2021. After a period of public feedback both Oregon and Shannon, Counties have decided to opt-out, and commissioners from Howell and Ozark Counties are reportedly saying they will probably opt out too. Taney County has also opted out and if Howell and Ozark Counties opt out the entire stretch of Highway 160 would be out of the byway.
Residents who do not oppose the byway believe they will see a potential revenue increase for the area and local small businesses, those who oppose feeling it may infringe on property rights.
Local approval is required for the scenic byway to come through a county.
