An ambulance and the fire department were called to West Plains Elementary School Friday around noon.

At approximately noon, a call was placed to 9-1-1 to attend to a situation where the batteries in some maintenance equipment exploded in the cafeteria. There was no fire, and no students were in the cafeteria at that time. The fire department cleared the area, tested the air for safety, and school resumed as normal.

The School in a statement released said that  Student and staff member safety is their highest priority.  They wish to keep you informed as you may have witnessed the ambulance at the school. Please call 417-256-6158) if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.
