The Sharp County Sheriff is warning residents of a scam involving their office

Sheriff Shane Russell says the scam involves a person receiving a call and being told a warrant has been issued for their arrest. They then tell you to go to a local store and purchase gift cards and then they ask for the codes on the back of the card. The Sheriff says a woman in a neighboring county was taken for $5,000. The Sheriff says if you receive a call, hang up and report it to the Sheriff’s office.
