Independence County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating an incident that occurred early Thursday morning, on Wagon Wheel Road in Floral. Sheriff Shawn Stephens said his deputies responded to a 36-year-old female, Beverly Cousins, being struck by a vehicle. Cousins was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Sheriff Stephens said, a short time later, 52-year-old Earl Cousins was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of that wound. The sheriff said investigators are looking into the incident to determine what took place, and if any charges should be filed.
