Kerri Huett

Kerri Huett
April 16, 1966 – December 28, 2025

Kerri Huett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 59. Born in Bellflower, California, on April 16, 1966, she grew up embracing the warmth and free-spirited energy of her home state on the coast. Even after moving to St. Louis with her family for work, Kerri remained a California girl at heart, carrying the sunshine, strength, and easygoing nature of the West Coast with her wherever she went.

Kerri was a remarkably strong woman, known for her resilience and unwavering determination in the face of ongoing health challenges. She bravely fought every battle placed before her, never giving up and never losing her heart. Her courage, perseverance, and quiet strength inspired everyone who knew her, especially her family, who watched her face life with grace even on the hardest days.

Her career as a professional truck driver was a source of pride for Kerri, allowing her to see the country and connect with people from all walks of life. True to her nature, she never met a stranger. Whether through a shared story, a warm laugh, or a heartfelt conversation, Kerri had a way of making people feel seen, welcome, and valued. Her radiant smile and genuine kindness left a lasting impression everywhere she went.

Kerri found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved crafting, playing board games with her family, listening to music of all kinds, and caring deeply for animals. She had a special love for turtles, particularly the Galápagos Island tortoises, admiring their gentleness and longevity. Her loyal dog, Jack, was her constant companion and brought her great comfort and happiness. An enthusiastic fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kerri enjoyed cheering on her team and sharing those moments with loved ones.

Above all else, Kerri’s greatest love was her family. She shared 28 years of marriage with her husband, Keith, and together they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support throughout their 31 years together. Kerri was a strong woman who loved with her whole heart and fought harder than anyone for everything in her life. She was the best friend to both her daughter and her husband, the heart of their family, and the center of their world. To them, she was home. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, Kylie, who was not only her child but her best friend, confident, and heart.

Kerri is survived by her loving husband, Keith; her daughter, Kylie; and numerous other relatives and friends who cherished her deeply. Her caring heart, gentle soul, and joyful spirit touched every life she encountered.

In her honor, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined. Kerri will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, her kindness, and the boundless love she gave so freely. In her memory, please do something kind for someone else, just as she always did.

Rodney Lee Briscoe

Funeral services for Rodney Lee Briscoe, 61, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Mr. Briscoe passed away January 3, 2026, at his home.

Rod was born August 24th, 1964, to Jerry and Billie Briscoe.  He graduated from West Plains High School with the Class of 1982.  In July of 1990, Rod married the love of his life, his wife Marilyn. He also became “Steppy” to a bouncing twelve year old girl, Kelli. Then, on June 15th, 1995, they added the life of the party to their little family, Ira Lee Briscoe.  For thirty-five years, Rod and Marilyn loved each other deeply. They hung on through the hard times and they made sure that laughter was a big part of life. Marilyn was an excellent caregiver through Rod’s illness and all he had to do was say “Sweetie…” and she was right there. A love like theirs is a beautiful example to us all. Rod was a teacher of all things in life. Wise beyond his years, in his gentle way, he could explain almost anything. He also had a kind way of understanding when you needed to talk about something. Quick wit and twinkling eyes that just made a person feel better.  Rod loved to hunt and fish. He and his “brother” John were always hunting something or going for a ride. Rod’s eyes would light up when he knew that John was coming over. Friendship like that is a gift. Rod also loved to hunt with Ira. He was so proud of Ira’s love for the outdoors. His favorite picture of Ira was when he got his first turkey. (Years before he made Kelli hold one by the feet while he did the rest. Probably laughing at her wrinkled nose because the turkey’s hind quarters were in her face.)  Rod loved to play the guitar and when Ira got a little older they would play together. Marilyn would sing. They should have taken that show on the road!  Rod was one of the most compassionate people you would ever meet. He was so generous and preferred others over himself. He also generously shared working in his giant garden with Marilyn and Kelli. He made them dig potatoes and, when spiders came up out of the ground, they screamed and ran out of the garden. He was always the teacher. That garden was phenomenal, though, even though his helpers were scaredy cats.  Rod loved his family so much, each and every one. Then those little grandkids started coming along and Papaw Rod was everyone’s favorite. So much fun and full of smiles and laughter. His gentle way made them feel special. He was so proud of Madyson teaching, Taylor being a nurse, and of course Luke being his own personal barber. Rodney Wade, his little namesake, came along a few years later and we all enjoy him so much, and he is so much like his Papaw Rod. The two Rodneys had a very special connection.  Rod was a believer and even though we are so sad to let him go, we know where he is, and that he is free. That is a comfort to his family.  “It’s just for a little while.” -Rodney Briscoe

He/she is survived by Rodney is survived by “Sweetie” Marilyn, his wife, of the family home; his niece, Zoe Lindberg, also of the family home; his daughter, Kelli and son-in-law, Ricky; his grandkids, Madyson and John Ryan, Taylor, Luke and Audra, and Rodney Wade; his sisters Vickie and Jo, and their children; his wife’s siblings, Marsha, Jay, and Vicky, and their children; his father-in-law, J.D. Hobbs; and his special “nurse”, his sister-in-law, Threasa Shepherd. He is also survived by lots of nieces and nephews and cousins, who he loved so much. We also can’t leave out Tucker…his big ol’ Standard Poodle. Tucker provided lots of therapy and entertainment for Rod.

Rodney is preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his son, Ira, mother-in-law, Iva Hobbs, two brothers-in-law, Abigia Hobbs and Gene Shepherd, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.  Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO  65775. Born on June 15, 1961, Patti dedicated her life to her family, creating a warm and loving home to her husband of 46 years, Ed, and their four children.  Patti’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, her warmth, laughter and unconditional love will be forever missed. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, and important milestone in the lives of those she loved. Her Catholic faith and love for Jesus shaped how she loved others and gave her strengh and peace throughout her life, loving others selflessly and wholeheartedly. Ed and Patti began their journey in life together in 1979, loving and cherishing each other every day, devoted to one another and putting Jesus at the center of their relationship. Their love will be an inspiration until the end of time, setting the example to love as Christ loved the church.  Patti poured her heart into caring for her family and home. She lovingly homeschooled her children, serving as their teacher, guide, and biggest encourager, and took great pride in nurturing both their education and their character. She also found joy and peace in gardening, tending to her plants with the same patience, dedication, and care that she gave to everyone she loved.  She was a constant presence in her children’s lives, their home, offering steady love, comfort, and guidance through every season. To her children, Patti was more than a devoted mother; she was a best friend, a constant source of love, and their greatest supporter. She was always there to listen, to guide, and to love unconditionally, and her absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

David Cox

Funeral services for David Eugene Cox, 59, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

David passed away surrounded by his family on December 4, 2025.  He was a devoted husband, father and friend whose love and dedication touched everyone who knew him.

David was born in Houston, Missouri on April 30, 1966, to Clifford and Louise Cox.  He graduated from West Plains High School in 1984, where he proudly served as captain of the football team.  On June 14, 1985, he married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie.  Together, they shared 40 years of marriage and raised two children, Zach and Courtney.

David worked for Howell Oregon Electric for 33 years, retiring on February 28, 2023.  He loved his work and took it seriously, often putting in long hours to keep the lights on for families he didn’t even know.  Before retiring, David founded Cox Lawn Care in 2022, which quickly became his new passion.  Family and friends teased him about working harder after retirement, but he truly loved mowing, trimming and perfecting every yard.  His precision and skill made him highly sought after in the community.

A lifelong football fan, David played all four years of high school and was known as an all-star player.  He was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, never missing a game and hosting epic football barbecues that became family events.  Watching the Chiefs win three Super Bowls brought him immense joy.

David’s greatest pride was his family.  Jeannie was the love of his life and he dedicated himself to bringing her happiness.  He was deeply proud of Zach and Courtney, always teaching them life skills and encouraging independence.

David loved the outdoors, especially golf.  He taught Courtney to play and proudly followed her through her high school and college golf career.  David was so proud when Courtney got an ACE at her state tournament, a memory he talked about frequently.  In recent years, Zach also took up the sport, giving David even more pride getting to play with his son.  David delighted in family tournaments where everyone – even Jeannie – joined in, filling the days with laughter and many “Jeannie-isms”.  Some of David’s fondest memories were on the golf course, competing and laughing with all his sons:  Zach, Matthew and Cody.

David was a devout Christian who believed wholeheartedly that God was in control.  His faith guided him and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; his children, Zachariah Cox and Laura Moore of West Plains, Courtney Hamilton and husband, Matthew of Nixa, Missouri and bonus son Cody Swearengin of West Plains; his mother, Louise Cox of West Plains; brothers Terry Cox and wife, Pam of Fort Worth, Texas and Stan Cox and wife, Jenny of Rogersville, Missouri; sister Sharon Chronister and husband, Greg of Kimberling City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

His father, Clifford Cox and his son, Zebulon Samuel Cox, preceded him in death.

“We are forever changed by losing him, but even more profoundly changed by having him.” – Courtney

Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to CASA, and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., West Plains, Missouri.  Online condolences may be left at www.robertsondrago.com

Larry Bennett

In Loving Memory of Larry Bennett

A Life Marked by Dedication, Adventure, and Heart

Larry Bennett’s journey began in the close-knit community of Burnham, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. These formative years instilled in Larry a deep appreciation for hard work and simple joys, values he carried with him throughout life. He later graduated from Willow Springs School, laying the foundation for a life defined by resilience and determination.

After his schooling, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His years in the service shaped his sense of duty and adventure, preparing him for the road ahead, both literally and figuratively.

Larry’s lifelong career as a semi driver was nothing short of extraordinary. Specializing in oversize and heavy loads, he became a respected figure in the trucking community. His work took him to remarkable places, including contributing to the construction of the legendary Alaskan Pipeline, a testament to his skill and courage. Before his well-earned retirement, Larry helped transport windmill blades, playing a role in the growth of renewable energy and leaving his mark on the landscape in more ways than one.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry’s heart was always open to four-legged companions. His love for cats and dogs was evident to all who knew him, and at Shepherds View in Alton, he formed a special bond with a spirited abandoned kitten who became a constant source of comfort and joy.  Larry would get up before daylight to make sure it was fed and watered.

Larry’s warmth extended to his family, especially his beloved nieces and nephews. His affection and playful spirit left lasting memories, and he was always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.

One of his favorite pastimes was golfing.  He carried his golf clubs with him on his semi so if he had the chance to hit the course while out on the road, he would.  He loved his sister Dana and wanted her to go golfing with him, but she didn’t know how to golf.   No excuses, he paid for her to have golfing lessons so she could go golfing when he was in off the road.

As we remember Larry, we celebrate a life lived with integrity, generosity, and a gentle sense of humor. In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held. Those who knew Larry are invited to honor his memory by sharing stories, treasuring the bonds of family, and perhaps giving a scratch behind the ears to a favorite pet in his name.

Larry Bennett’s legacy endures in the roads he traveled, the projects he helped build, and the hearts of those who loved him. He will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Schafer passed away peacefully at 11:50 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2025 in West Plains, Missouri.

She dearly loved her family and spreading the word of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a youth bible study teacher for over 20 years at West 160 Church of Christ. You’Vah was most at home and always a “friend in the kitchen”. Whether you’ve eaten at a table in her home, in one of her restaurants, or simply enjoyed one of the recipes she passed on through her cookbooks and cooking column (one of the longest running columns in The West Plains Daily Quill),  you’ve likely felt the love she passed on through her food. She was also an avid gardener; her house on Harlin Drive was always crowned with one of the most beautiful flower gardens in West Plains. Others may remember her through her involvement with the family’s Ford Tractor Dealership or Trucking Line, but wherever you knew her, you knew she was a force and someone who demanded to be known. You’Vah was born in Leota, Missouri on January 12, 1933 to Jesse “Big Jess” Vaughan and Addie Strickland Vaughan. She was born the youngest of three with older sister Hazel Vaughan Guffey and brother Cletus Vaughan. She went to school and graduated from Bakersfield High School and later Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. She married Boyd Schafer May 15, 1951 and they would have three children: Kitty, Sally and Randall. They would host several foster children over the years. Four of the girls (Kathy, Wanda, Barb and Margie) would be active parts of her family for the rest of her life.  She taught at Cage one room schoolhouse near Jadwin, Missouri when she was barely older than some of the students she taught. She was very proud that some of her students had remained in regular contact with her throughout her life.  She especially loved visits from her nephew, Junior Guffey and his wife Pam who brought her a great deal of comfort especially in her later years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Boyd Schafer, her father Jesse “Big Jess” Vaughan, her mother Addie Strickland Vaughan, her sister Hazel Vaughan Guffey (Buck), her great-grandson Kayden, and her beloved brother Cletus Vaughan (Reba).

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., West Plains, Missouri.  You’Vah had been an avid supporter of this organization for several decades and continued to donate monthly until her passing.

Joyce Yvonne Neely

Joyce Yvonne Neely (née Chronister) of Ash Flat, Arkansas passed away peacefully October 30, 2025 at the age of 84. She was born April 10, 1941 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Omer and Evelyn Mathis Chronister. As a young woman, she met and married the love of her life, Arthur D. Neely (USAF Ret.), beginning a lifetime of adventure that took them to Greece, Spain, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire), and many states across the U.S.A.

Joyce had an enduring heart for people. After settling in Hardy, Arkansas, she could be found working in a number of local establishments over the years including Piggly Wiggly, Town & Country, Price Chopper, the Arkansaw Traveller, and finally at the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, where she served faithfully until her retirement.

In retirement, Joyce found joy in simple pleasures and giving back. She volunteered for several local charities and cherished time spent fishing with Art, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A licensed cosmetologist for over sixty years, Joyce had an unmistakable flair for fashion — bright colors, floral prints, and always a touch of sparkle. She loved crocheting, sewing, and making her famously delicious fruit jellies. Her daughters fondly remember growing up in handmade, often coordinating outfits stitched with love. A passionate reader, Joyce made books and learning a priority in her home — a legacy that lives on through her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener who could name nearly any plant she came across, and she delighted in painting watercolors of the flowers from her garden that Art captured through photography. Together they filled their home with art, color, and love.

A devoted member of Light in the Wilderness Church, Joyce was known as everyone’s Grandma, and she treasured her time with her Senior Club, The Golden Girls. She was always quick to support causes benefiting veterans — a reflection of her lifelong pride as a serviceman’s wife. Her remarkable fifty years of marriage to Art were a testament to their enduring devotion and love as witnessed by their five daughters.

Joyce was the proud mother of DeAnna Jones (Stan) of Hardy, AR, Susan Neely of Springfield, MO, Nancy Russell (née Neely) of Cave City, AR, Alicia Neely of Bellingham, WA, and Christina Hughbank (David) of Moody, TX. She is survived by all five daughters and their spouses along with ten grandchildren and their spouses, twenty-three great-grandchildren and their spouses, and one great-great-grandson — each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind many cherished extended family members and a host of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, beloved husband, one grandson, Micah Burnett (USMC), and one great-grandson, Cameron Russell.

Joyce will be remembered for her zest for life, her love of music and humor, and a laugh that could fill a room. She was a woman whose light and warmth touched everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be at Light in the Wilderness Church, 12581 Hwy. 62/412, Ash Flat, AR 72513 on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. The family welcomes flowers sent to the church above or contributions made in Joyce’s honor to a charity of choice.

On June 28, 1977, John married Elizabeth Helmas, and he spent the rest of his life in the Pacific until retirement brought him back to West Plains in 2009. A true jack of all trades, John was known for being able to fix or build anything. His character was one of true integrity, humility, and discipline, always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need. Beyond work, John enjoyed the simple pleasures like reading, tackling crossword puzzles, and fishing, but his deepest joy came from spending time with family and friends.

Debbie is survived by her loving daughter, Amy Underwood Barton, and her cherished grandson, Samuel George Barton, both of Maryville, Missouri. Pierce, Florida, and Jennifer Larsen and her husband, Derek of West Plains, Missouri. Debbie’s family and close friends were her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She loved deeply and gave freely, always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a word of encouragement. Her faith in the Lord guided her life, and she lived out that faith daily through her compassion, generosity, and selfless service to others.

Debbie was known for her strong work ethic, leadership, and kind heart throughout a long and successful career in business and community service. She began her professional journey in banking, serving in numerous roles with Sun Trust and Wachovia Bank in Florida from 1978 to 2001. Over two decades, she advanced from bank teller to loan officer to vice president, overseeing operations, staff training, and customer relations.

Her career reflected both professionalism and heart. Debbie worked as a Certified Public Accountant Assistant and as a Substitute Teacher for the Escambia County School District in Century, Florida, in the early 2000s, where she shared her patience, encouragement, and warmth with students.

In 2008, Debbie fulfilled her dream of business ownership by founding and operating the Thayer Fitness Center in Thayer, Missouri. As owner and operator for more than a decade, she managed all aspects of the business with dedication and care, creating an environment that promoted health, friendship, and community support.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Debbie was deeply committed to serving others. She served as President of Selah Place of Oregon County, Missouri, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Under her leadership, Selah Place worked to ensure that local families had access to safety, compassion, and the support they needed to rebuild their lives. Debbie also served as Vice President of the Myrtle Senior Citizens, where she worked to provide programs and opportunities that helped seniors stay active and socially engaged in their community.

Debbie’s life was defined by love, service, and faith. She had a heart for helping people—whether through her church, her community, or her friendships—and she lived each day with kindness, gratitude, and purpose. Those who knew Debbie will remember her radiant smile, her laughter, her unwavering faith, and her ability to make others feel seen and loved. She left a legacy of strength, compassion, and grace that will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Gwenda Inez Rowland

Gwenda Inez (Foster) Rowland departed from us on October 20, 2025, at the young age of 93.

She was born in Elizabeth, Arkansas on February 3, 1932, to Troy Foster and Mildred (Marchant) Foster. She was one of ten children in a loving, tight knit family.

Gwen enjoyed being at home and “playing in the dirt”, as she would refer to her gardening projects. She loved being outside spending time in nature. She didn’t care for idle time and was stubborn to the core; I hear that runs in the family. She had a sharp mind and a quick wit. Love was what she carried. Her love for all was unconditional and she had a deep empathy for all the suffering in the world. She had a personal relationship with her creator and was of the Catholic faith. Some of her most quoted lines were, “Hope’s not hope if you can see it.” and “Be good to yourself and be good to others.”

Gwen’s journey here has reached its destination, but she will continue making pathways in the hearts of all of those who were present in her life. The stars await this beautiful, sweet, and gentle soul. Peace be with you.

Gwen is survived by her three children, son Mikel Rowland of Mountain Home, Arkansas, daughter Renee Messina of Kingsport, Tennessee and daughter Bridget Rowland of the home in Sturkie, Arkansas.

She also leaves behind three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also left behind are brothers, Junior, Ed, Donnie, Gail, and sisters Shirley Holstine and Pat Sobba.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Foster, sisters Mary Conrow and Beatrice Young.

There will be no arrangements at this time.

Joe Roy Bean

Funeral services for Joe Roy Bean, 91, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Mr. Bean passed away October 18, 2025, near West Plains, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 25, 1933, outside of Bakersfield, Missouri, to Raymond and Alice “Faye” Atkinson Bean. Joe was the second born out of 8 boys.  Joe attended schools at Plum Hollow, Bakersfield Elementary, Hog Danger and Barren Creek, and graduated from Bakersfield High School with the Class of 1942.  After graduating, at age 17, Joe went to Kansas to harvest wheat for a family friend. After harvest was complete when he returned home, he had a friend visiting from Belvidere, Illinois, and said he would get Joe a job in Belvidere. He went and worked in the tomato factory, at a gas station, but his favorite was the ice cream plant. He had just been promoted when he got the call to be examined for the draft.  Joe moved back home and instead of waiting to be drafted, he chose to enlist in the Army. At the time of enlistment there were only two positions left between him and another young man. After drawing straws, the other soldier got the Air Force and he got the Army.  A few weeks later at the end of May, Joe was sworn into the Army in Kansas City then bussed to Camp Crowder, near Neosho, Missouri, then bussed to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for sixteen weeks of basic training. Because he had enlisted for three years, he was with a group of soldiers that were ordered to remain in Fort Leonard Wood for additional training before being shipped to Germany as utility engineers. The 2-year enlistees were shipped to Korea.  While stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Joe would get weekend passes to come home. One of those weekends changed his life forever. Ruth Juanita Driscoll caught his attention while he sat outside the Bakersfield First Assembly of God church during a revival service watching “the show”. Little did he know that within a few months’ time, he would become a born-again Christian during that 6-week revival, fall in love, and marry his Bride (10/24/1953). Juanita was his rose in the flower garden of life, having celebrated their 70th anniversary in November 2023, before she passed in January 2024.  January 3, 1954, he began his thirty month journey to Germany. Joe kept his integrity with the Lord and his wife. He joined an Assembly of God group in Germany and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost while there.  His life as a civilian began Memorial weekend, 1956. Juanita had purchased and furnished a little farm outside West Plains and couldn’t wait for his arrival home. His first job was working for an iron ore mine. In November 1957, he was approached by the Neathery’s to work as a lineman at their new business Community Cable Company. As the radio station tower service and repairman, he climbed many, many towers, having one major fall, but because of a Miracle hand of God, he sustained minor injuries.  In 1985, Joe sustained injuries while trimming a tree in his spare time. After spending a few weeks in Springfield Hospital and six months recovery, he was finally able to work again. Robertson-Drago approached him about working for them. He got his Funeral Director’s license and remained with Robertson-Drago Funeral Home for over twenty-five years.  Joe was ordained as a minister in the early 80’s. He was a faithful lay-preacher, having served as a Trustee/Deacon in this home church that he helped build, Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle. Joe left for three years to Pastor his hometown church, Full Gospel Church, Bakersfield, Missouri.  Joe faithfully worked, served and ministered every way he could to help establish a conservative, Full Gospel independent work, free from organizational influence. He was a Pastor and Preacher backer. Thanks to the Neathery’s, he was given radio air time at which he led a Sunday Morning radio broadcast for many years along with fulfilling many roles during transitioning of Pastors. Being a firm believer in Christian education, Joe helped establish Calvary Christian Academy and CrossRoads Christian Academy serving on both boards.  Other preaching ministries included holding revivals in little country churches in this area. He officiated many, many funerals and a few weddings.  In his spare time, Joe was actively involved as a Firefighter, having served with the West Plains Fire Department as a Volunteer fireman for thirty-one years. After his resignation from Bakersfield church, he returned to West Plains and was immediately placed on the board of Howell Rural Fire Department where he remained as President until May 2024.  Joe also served as a board member of the Fair View School board for many years.  Joe drove cars for local car dealers.  He also served in the West Plains unit of the Veteran’s Honor Guard; it was his passion as long as he could attend.  Joe loved hunting and fishing. While pastoring, he had a boat named “Visitation”. As a joke he would tell how long he’d been out on “visitation”. He loved fishing. The highlight of his year would be when the Toney family showed up for deer season. Joe and Victor Toney were kindred spirits and enjoyed their time fishing and hunting together.

The children joined to this union were:  their son, Michael Joe Bean and wife, Paula, Princeton, Indiana, their children; Johanna (Dominic) Chicago, Illinois, Kristin (Collin) Lee Summit, Missouri and Bracy (Briana) Springfield, Missouri and 10 grandchildren: Eli, Jude, Ila, CJ, Benny Paul, Gabriele, Juliette, Evelyn, Olivia, James.  Daughter, Tamala Ruth Riggs and husband, Ray, West Plains, their child; Tabitha (Anson) Miller West Plains, and 3 grandchildren: Lucas, Liam, Lance; late daughter, Anna Rafae Johnston, her husband, David, Ontario, Canada, their child; Courtney Anne New Brunswick, Canada, and the late Alicia; their son, James Timothy Bean and wife, Judy, Jefferson City, Missouri, his children; Nathanael (Hailey) Joplin, Missouri and James Martin (Britney) West Plains and three grandchildren: Colter, Quinn, Cheyanne, and the late Timberlee and Lathe; their son John Mark Bean and wife, Daralena, Slovakia, their children; Dara (James) Thomas Springfield, Missouri; Dale Joseph (Ellyn) Springfield, Missouri; Daine (Ashley) , Blue Springs, Missouri; Danae (Nathan) Coolidge Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada and Dessa (Kevin) Godla Springfield, Missouri and twelve grandchildren: Winston, Laith, Elias, Hudson, Addelyn, Jack, Maisy, August Jo, Zimri, Thaddeus, Eloise, Jacob.  Joe is survived by three brothers, Jerry Bean (Peggy), Douglas (Bonnie), James “Red” (Mary Lou); three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jo, Ramona, Betty and In-laws, Sister Mary Toney, Jim (Delores) Driscoll, Thelma (Paul) Montgomery.

Gail Kappelmann

Gail Kappelmann loved life! She made the most of every moment and was a perpetual
optimist. Gail always possessed the attitude that things would turn out the way they were
supposed to and she rarely worried about anything, except the people she loved. Even with
those she loved she was more of a doer than a worrier. If she worried about someone for a
specific reason she would try to find a way to help solve the problem instead of wasting time
worrying. She was very generous and always willing to help someone she loved but never
wanted a lot of fanfare about it.

Gail was an incredibly hard worker. She worked different jobs while raising her small
children, she grew a garden, home cooked all of the family meals from scratch, and literally, with
saws, hammers, and lumber, helped build a home for her family. Gail went to work for UPS as a
part time truck loader in the mid 80’s eventually earning a spot as a full time package delivery
driver. At this time there weren’t any other women working at the local UPS center and it was
oftentimes a challenge. But Gail never backed down from a challenge, she met them headfirst
with strength, courage, and a work ethic that became legendary in UPS circles.

Gail loved going places with the people she loved, from big vacations to local fall
festivals on Saturdays, she liked to Go. Some of her favorite trips were the cruises she took with
her daughters, sisters, son in laws, and friends. She loved the annual girls float trip that she took
with some of her most beloved women every summer and enjoyed taking short trips with
friends, family, or by herself to the casino. Her most favorite place to visit was the beach. She
loved the water, the warm sand, and the sound of the waves. The beach was her happy place.

Gail was a very strong and independent woman. Through her actions she demonstrated
to her daughters that they could do anything they set their minds to and that they could stand on
their own two feet but that she would be standing behind them no matter what. Gail was her
daughters’ number 1 fan and she referred to them as the loves of her life.

Gail was married to her husband Thomas until his passing in April of 2025. She was an
amazing wife and supportive partner to him for all 55 years of their marriage. They were a
perfectly matched set, knowing each other so well that their quirks and personalities fit like
puzzle pieces.

Gail was a great role model in many ways. She was fun-loving, easy-going, and good
natured. She was also very intelligent, loved to read, and loved movies. She loved spending
time with her grandkids, whom she treated as friends, talking about books and attending movies
together. She loved Mexican food, Andy’s Frozen Custard, and 7 Brew coffee.

Gail is preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas. She is survived by daughters
Heather Rees (Ric), Heidi Darrow (Michael), and Tomi Coomer (Brad), Grandson Elijah Pettit
(Paige), granddaughter Gracie Coomer and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of
whom will miss the love and light she brought to their lives.

In lieu of flowers and gifts the family request to please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Gail’s memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Gail & Tom’s home: 3876 County Road 4990, Willow Springs, MO, 65793, on November 8, 2025, starting at 1 p.m.
