Charges have officially been filed against an Independence County man for the murder of another man on May 17th. 18-year-old Matthew Earl Speakman is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old Jason Anderson of Sulphur Rock. According to the arrest affidavit, Speakman believed that Anderson was making advances toward him and grabbed a hammer and hit Anderson in the head. Deputies found Anderson in a bathtub with a hammer and large rocks also in the tub. Deputies say it appeared Anderson had been hit several times. Speakman is charged with first-degree murder, theft of property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1 million.
