On June 17, 2023, at approximately 1:42 p.m. a Wright County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Eastbound Hwy 60 near State Hwy 95 in Mtn. Grove. During the stop, the Deputy observed erratic behavior from the driver and asked for consent to search the vehicle, permission was given. A metal tin containing a crystalline substance was located and filed tested positive for methamphetamine. The driver, Helen Gowin, 64, of Blairestown MO. was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On June 9, 2023, at approximately 8:57 p.m. a Wright County deputy conducted a traffic stop on Westbound Hwy 60 at Mansfield. Contact with the driver and he was advised of the reason for the stop. The deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle and consent was given, during the search a baggie containing a crystal-like substance was located, and field tested positive for methamphetamine. The driver, Paul Caruso, of Mansfield, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On June 7, 2023, at approximately 3:05 a.m. a Wright County Deputy observed a vehicle pull into a business at Norwood. After observing the vehicle sitting in the same spot for several hours and the driver never exiting the vehicle the Deputy made contact with the driver. After speaking to the driver K9 Alex was deployed to do a free air sniff around the vehicle. K9 Alex gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. A search was conducted and suspected methamphetamine was located. The driver, Scott Vass, of Ellsinore MO, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On June 6, 2023, at approximately 11:12 p.m. a Wright County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Hwy E in Norwood. Contact was made with the driver and consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted. During the search, a crystal-like substance, syringes, a scale, and a firearm were located. The crystal-like substance field tested positive for methamphetamine with an unofficial weight of 37.77 grams. James Vanmuysen, of Springfield, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On June 1st, 2023 at approximately 3:08 a.m. a Wright County Deputy was monitoring traffic in Norwood, he observed a vehicle with equipment violations pull into a business and then pull around behind the business with its lights turned off. The deputy made contact with the driver and advised the reason for the contact. The Deputy deployed K9 Alex to do a free air sniff around the vehicle. K9 Alex gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle was conducted where suspected methamphetamine was located. The driver, Philip Dossett, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On May 23, 2023, at approximately 8:39 p.m. Wright County deputies, while patrolling, located a vehicle matching the description of one that was involved in a pursuit earlier in the day. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle attempted to flee. After a short distance, the vehicle went into the ditch, disabling it. Deputies took the driver, Catrina Mikel, of Norwood, into custody. While escorting Mikel to the patrol vehicle she continued to resist officers and failed to obey commands. When being placed into the caged patrol car, Mikel, who was still actively resisting, was able to get a can of pepper sprays off the Deputy’s belt. Deputies retrieved the pepper spray and Mikel was transported to the Wright County Jail.
Mikel was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Disarming a Police Officer or Correctional Officer while performing official duty, endangering the welfare of a child x 2, resisting arrest by fleeing and resisting arrest for a felony.
On May 18th, 2023 at approximately 01:18 a.m. a Wright County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on C Hwy in Norwood. Contact was made with the driver and consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted. During the search suspected cocaine was located. Paul Severns of Crane Mo. was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Wright County Jail.
On May 10, 2023, A Wright County deputy conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 60 at Pridemore Rd for traffic violations. During the stop K9 Alex was deployed and gave a positive alert. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a suspected methamphetamine pipe was located. The driver, Jason Collins, of Lawrence Kansas, was arrested and transported to the Wright County Jail.
