The Howell County Sheriff’s Office would like to make the community aware of a recent scam being reported. An unknown subject is advising potential victims that they have missed letters of notification for sex offender registration. The unknown subject is using the fictitious name of “Deputy Brooks.” The unknown subject attempted to gain $2,000 in order to clear a warrant being issued.
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office would like to notify the community; this is a scam and citizens are urged to immediately contact the sheriff’s office at 417-256-2544 should they have concerns or questions about similar incidents.
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office does not accept money or payments over the phone. Furthermore, our agency will never accept payments in the form of anything except for cash or certified cashier’s checks.
