51-year-old Joshua Smithee was involved in a standoff Sunday afternoon and deputies were struck by shrapnel when Smithee shot a vehicle. Deputies had responded to a residence where a man was threatening a family member. When deputies arrived Smithee refused to exit the residence and threatened to shoot deputies. The standoff lasted nearly two hours. Smithee at one point fired three shots hitting a vehicle with shrapnel hitting two deputies in the faces and bodies. One deputy returned fire but no one was shot. Smithee finally surrendered. The investigation continues.
