This morning a child was abducted in Mammoth Spring. The child has since been safely recovered after a traffic stop near Hardy and a suspect has been arrested. According to police reports around 10 this morning Charlie Martin entered a restaurant assaulted a man and took the child. Martin and a passenger then left at a high rate of speed. The ford truck he was driving was located near Hardy and stopped. Hardy Police and a Sharp County deputy found the two suspects in the vehicle with one holding the infant child. Sergeant Bryce Trivitt jumped into the window of the truck and safely removed the baby as Martin sped way. A pursuit began and Martin’s vehicle was forced off the road by police near Ozark Acres. The passenger then fled on foot into the woods. Martin displayed a handgun and put it to the side of his head. A standoff began that lasted about 30 minutes before Martin surrendered. Martin suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Hospital for treatment then transported to the Sharp County Detention Center. Authorities say the passenger was not involved in the incident.
