Some residents in Theodosia have just found out that some of their mail was destroyed by fire last month . In a letter from the Theodosia Postmaster, they were told that local authorities in the area, along with the Postal Inspection Service and the Office of the Inspector General were investigating the destruction of the mail. It is believed that a mail carrier allegedly took some of the August 31st mail and burned it in a cemetery. The letter from postmaster to mail patrons on the impacted mail route said federal law exempts the postal service from liability for claims arising out of the loss, miscarriage or negligent delivery of mail matter, except where insurance is either included in the postage or additional insurance is purchased.”
