Pets Face Dangers During Holiday Season

With all the food and festivities, keeping your furry family members safe during the holidays can be a challenge. But Fluffy and Fido will be just fine with some simple precautions. Director of pet care issues at the Humane Society of the United States, K-C Theisen, says bowls of candy or snacks left sitting out can cause health issues for pets.

She says plants also need to be kept out of reach because, poinsettias, mistletoe, and holly all can be poisonous, or at least cause stomach upset. Pets can also be curious about decorations, so Theisen recommends securely anchoring the Christmas tree and keeping all breakable ornaments, tinsel, and garland out of reach.
