West Plains to receive multi-million dollar grant

Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that West Plains would be receiving $2.2 million to make critical railroad infrastructure repairs.

The money will help to build an at grade railroad crossing into an overpass improving access to businesses on Highway 150 in West Plains.

According to a press release from the City of West Plains, the project is expected to create 50 jobs and generate $31.4 million in private investment.

Gina Raimondo says the president is committed to infrastructure, “President Biden is committed to supporting communities in developing safe and resilient infrastructure to serve businesses and create American jobs. This project will improve transportation safety in the region and will mitigate negative impacts of flooding, improving business resiliency and creating a stronger regional economy.”

This project was made possible by the South Central Ozark Council of Governments (SCOCOG). EDA funds SCOCOG to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
