WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Officials with the Friends of the Garnett Library will host their first of three special events this year “Celebrating Moments in Time” at 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Garnett Library, 304 W. Trish Knight St., in West Plains.

“The events are a series of speaking engagements to draw the community into the Garnett Library and see it as a space where everyone can be celebrated,” said Rebekah McKinney, director of library services.

“The theme, ‘Celebrating Moments in Time,’ is a means of sharing information and stories of historical interest to a broader audience,” she added.

This first event will feature a presentation by members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter. DAR members will talk about the patriots who established our country through the American Revolution, discuss the purpose behind their organization and its founding, and outline the process for becoming a member.

Members also will be on hand to talk about their participation and experience in the society, McKinney said.

Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend, organizers said.

Area residents who have questions about DAR and would like to speak with someone about the organization prior to the Nov. 9 event can contact McKinney at 417-255-7949 or RebekahMcKinney@MissouriState.edu
