The Thayer City Council met at City Hall last night for their monthly meeting. The meeting began with the mayor swearing in Brent Collins as City Clerk. Collins swore in all the newly elected officials and those re-appointed including City Attorney Justin Nelson, City Chief of Police Daryl Childers, Fire Chief, and EMA Director Mark Arnold.

The council then re-appointed Ken McKenzie as Mayor Pro-Temp and Janice Tolar as Treasurer, and they appointed Councilmen, Mark Bryant and Dirk Schults to the Oregon County Recycling Board. The city council then voted to approve the recycling ordinance to allow for increased charge amounts.  They approved the contract of Waste Connections for two years, approved the court clerk attending the MACA Conference, and approved renaming the court checking account. Then before going to the close session, the council heard from a resident who had some issues with the sewer system. Mrs. Jones told the council the sewer had backed up in her house in her tub and toilet and that she was told by the city it was on her property, so she hired a plumber and after the damage was done to her landscaping, porch, and field she found out it was on the city’s side. She showed the city bills and pictures of the damage and the city agreed that it was their fault. The city agreed to pay the cost of repairs at $2,323.10 and $1,500 compensation.
