
A gun was found in a vehicle in the student parking lot at the Willow Springs School last Friday. According to a statement released by the school, there was no threat associated with finding the gun. Parents were made aware of the incident. The gun was found when a K-9 unit was performing a random drug search and found the pistol along with ammunition in the truck. The school conducted an interview with the student without interrupting the school day. After an interview with the student and their parents, it was determined that the pistol was not a danger to the school. The school said that they have implemented the penalty required by the Missouri Safe Schools act and the federal gun-free school act of 1994, The student was suspended for one year. The suspension can be lessened upon the recommendations of the Superintendent. No criminal charges are expected to be filed.
